2010-rx-350

The 2010 Lexus RX 350 is the Lexus version of a luxury midsize crossover SUV. Foreign competitors include the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, Hyundai Veracruz, BMW X3 and Mercedes Benz GLK. American luxury midsize crossovers include the Lincoln MKX and MKT.

The RX 350 has a complete external refresh for this year. While you can still see enough traces of yesteryear's RX 350 to connect the two the new version is leaner, meaner and much sharper looking. In fact, to use a human equation, it looks like it went from couch potato to fighting trim.

The new RX 350 engine is also improved. It's still a 3.5 liter gasoline V6, same as last year. But the horsepower has been raised from 270 to 275. The engine is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, which has a manual shift mode.

The only trim differences in the RX 350 are front-wheel and all-wheel drive. At 18 miles per gallon city and 24 miles per gallon highway for the front-wheel drive model, with a drop of only one mile per gallon for the all-wheel drive, the RX 350 has actually improved in fuel efficiency.

Cargo volume for the RX 350 is 40 cubic feet, with a maximum payload of 1220 pounds. Not all the data is in yet on towing, but it will be rated for at least 3500 pounds maximum towing weight. Fuel economy and cargo volume are both rated better than class average, as is front legroom. Overall passenger volume and rear headroom are both less than class average.

NHTSA and IIHS numbers are not available yet for the new RX 350 and differences in this year's model make last year's numbers a less than reliable guide. The RX 350 has some good safety features including antilock brakes with electronic braking assistance, vehicle stability system and traction control, first aid kit and optional electronic parking aid.

On the other hand, some common safety features such as child safety locks and remote ignition have been left out, and limited slip differential is available only on the all-wheel drive. Locking differential is not available.

The 2010 Lexus RX 350 is surprisingly competitive on price. At a $36,800 base price it's less than $2000 above the class average for midsize SUVs and almost $20,000 less than the class average for luxury SUVs. All in all, the RX 350 is likely to continue drawing an audience, and possibly even increase it, even in these lean times.

Auto Shows 2006 Honda Accord Auto Show Photo

The Honda Accord has received a variety of exterior, interior, and technology updates for 2006. Have no fear, the changes aren't as extreme as they may appear -- this is the European-market Accord, not the Ohio-built, best-seller adored in America. Stateside, this car is sold as the Acura TSX, a well-executed, four-cylinder, near-lux sedan whose appeal may increase in measure with fuel prices. This Accord features a fresh face, with new headlamps, grille, and front fascia. Likewise, the rear soft parts have also been updated, while the sheetmetal remains untouched. On the tech front, the Accord is now available with the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) that uses a camera to help keep the sedan in its lane. As a safety feature, the system will issue a warning with correction, then require the driver to take over so as to not promote hands-free driving. The car also gains adaptive cruise control that uses radar to judge distances to cars in front, then adjusts speed accordingly. Both features should be welcomed on the crowded, high-speed autobahn.

I Can See Clearly Now: I Want This Honda Fuel Cell Car!

I Can See Clearly Now: I Want This Honda Fuel Cell Car!

Honda is bringing a hydrogen fuel cell-powered sedan to market, and it’s not some exotic-looking techmobile, but rather a stylish sedan that just happens to not run on a single drip of fossil fuel. It’s called the Honda FCX Clarity, and it just may be a game-changer in the automotive industry.

On top of its fuel-cell power plant, Honda also is develop a solar-powered hydrogen generator for the Clarity so that filling up the tank will itself be powered by clean, renewable energy.

You can’t just buy one at the local Honda dealer, though.

As Honda explains, initially only a limited number of hese groundbreaking vehicles will be leased to Southern Californians starting during the summer of 2008.

The reason for this limited initial release is that in order to drive a fuel cell vehicle, you have to be able to refuel it. And since these clean cars do not run on gasoline, you can’t just stop off at your regular corner gas station to fill up. Hydrogen fuel stations are critical to the deployment of a fuel cell car and, as it stands now, stations accessible to the public are still quite limited.

Therefore, only customers currently residing in the Torrance, Santa Monica and Irvine areas who meet additional qualification criteria will be eligible to take an FCX Clarity home. Honda wants to ensure that FCX Clarity drivers will be able to take their vehicles in for service at participating dealers and have convenient access to refueling stations. Sales will be handled through American Honda Motor Co., Inc. in conjunction with local dealers. Collision insurance and maintenance will all be covered by the three-year $600/month lease.

Hey honey, wanna move to Santa Monica? Oh, wait. Maybe we don’t have to if we just have a little patience. Says Honda:

If you live outside the area, don’t worry. We plan to roll out more of these amazing vehicles as more hydrogen refueling options become available. A key component of this effort is the development of Honda’s . At Honda we believe that hydrogen fuel cells have the power to change our society’s energy and mobility needs, and we are thrilled to have met this milestone with the introduction of the all-new FCX Clarity.

I can drive the old clunker awhile longer, I guess. I’d hate to be in the early stages of a locked-in 5-year payment plan on a new gasoline-fueled car when the Clarity becomes available in my little corner of America

The web page for the Honda Home Energy Station doesn’t mention it being powered by solar, but an emailed newsletter from Honda regarding the Clarity says Honda “went beyond the challenge of creating a zero-emissions hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle to accomplish an efficient refueling option based on renewable solar energy.” In fact, what Honda calls “next-generation thin film solar cells” are already mounted on an experimental Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) in Torrance, California. Honda says the experimental station is showing “increased efficiency in producing hydrogen using renewable solar energy,” and enthuses that achieving solar-powered hydrogen production to refuel the Clarity “lays the groundwork for a whole new way for society to think about energy in the future. ”

Hard to argue with that.

I’m looking forward to putting a Clarity in my garage in the not-to-distant future.

Honda CR-Z: Rebirth of the CRX

Honda CR-Z: Rebirth of the CRX

Honda has revealed two of the vehicles it will show at the Tokyo Motor Show at the end of the month. One, the Puyo, is a funky little thing that we’ve come to expect from the biannual Tokyo show. It’s a bubble of a car that would fit in nicely with The other is a compact, glass-roof hatchback called the CR-Z.

(Hmm…)

We’ve been expecting a follow-up to the CRX for a while, and some people thought, which was first shown at last year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, even though its designer, Ben Davidson, said at the time that his concept car was only a design study. Thank goodness.

And thankfully, the Remix and the CR-Z share no similar features other than size and a largely glass roof.

Honda isn’t playing coy with the CR-Z, which stands for Compact Renaissance Zero (whatever that means). It is clearly a modern CRX. It might also be the first nostalgic design from a Japanese carmaker. While hardly retro (in comparison to cars like the Mini and Fiat 500), it definitely makes one think of the CRX, a quintessential 1980s car.

Powered by a gas-electric hybrid system (most likely similar to Honda’s current system), the CR-Z is being billed by Honda as a “next-generation lightweight sports car.” With Honda no longer producing a stand-alone purpose-hybrid (like Toyota’s Prius), it seems logical that the CR-Z has a future carrying the high m.p.g. banner. And according to Edmunds.com,

The CR-Z, according to Japanese media reports, is a precursor of a new gas-electric hybrid model that Honda plans to introduce by 2009 in Japan and North America. The company will say only that the concept is a “design research model of a lightweight hybrid sports car.”

Honda Civic Diesel

Honda Civic Diesel

The Honda Civic started the small fuel-efficient automobile revolution, decades back. Over the years, the Civic has grown in both size and stature. The evolution of the model was bound to include a fuel efficient diesel engine. That time has come ...

With the 2.2 liter i-CTDi diesel engine, the three-door Civic Type S yields
0-62 MPH times of 8.6 seconds and 54.3 MPG combined (approximately 45.2 US MPG). Forget what you might have thought about diesel engines. This baby gets up and goes.

The Civic can be equipped with Honda's i-SHIFT automated manual transmission, which can be driven as a conventional automatic or as a clutchless manual. Gear changes are implemented with the gearstick or race car-style paddles on the steering wheel. The i-SHIFT was designed to provide rapid up- and down-shifting than a conventional manual transmission and better fuel economy than a conventional automatic.

Now there's an interior that screams boy racer ... grrrrlll racer, too.

If five doors suit you better than three, Honda has you covered. The Civic five-door, equipped with the 2.2 liter i-CTDi delivers 55.4 MPG combined (approximately 46.1 US MPG) and a 0-62 MPH time of 8.4 seconds. The turbo-diesel produces 138 horsepower at 4000 RPM. The Civic five-door is also available with a 1.8 liter i-VTEC engine that runs on gasoline. The 1.8 i-VTEC propels the Civic five-door to 62 MPH in 8.6 seconds and delivers 44.1 MPG combined (roughly 36.6 US MPG).

2006 Honda Civic Auto Show Photo

Honda is making waves around the globe rolling out its all-new, eighth-generation Civic. While in the United States, we're most excited about the 200-hp Si model, in Europe, it is the combination of zippy performance and fuel economy in the base models that has consumers fired up. In Europe, there are three engine choices: 1.4L i-DSI (intelligent-Dual and Sequential Ignition), 1.8L, and 2.2 i-CDTi diesel. Given the rise in gasoline prices, all commuters can appreciate the new hybrid with a 1.3L three-stage i-VTEC engine that can recover 10 percent more energy than the outgoing model. This hybrid system has 20 percent greater output than the '05 model and still shows a five percent improvement in fuel economy. The Civic also boasts gains on the safety front, with standard features such as ABS with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), and a seatbelt reminder system for the rear passengers. The company expects that the new Civic will achieve Euro NCAP ratings of 5 stars for front and side impact safety.

2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan: The Best One Yet

2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan: The Best One Yet

Roadfly tests a lot of cars, and we are inclined to look for the good in all of them. However, in some cases we don’t have to look very hard. One of these cases presented itself this past week in the form of the 2007 Civic Si sedan.

Let me take a moment to dispense with my personal and professional biases. I am a Honda fanboy to the core. My first car was a black 1998 Civic HX coupe, which featured the world’s first viable continuously variable transmission and got 40mpg. I replaced it with what is almost universally regarded as the best-handling front-wheel-drive car of all time - the 2001 Acura Integra Type-R. With 195hp, a limited-slip differential, and an awesome roar at 5700rpm when Honda’s variable valve timing system (VTEC) kicked in, it was a formidable weapon.

My buying habits may at the outset appear to compromise my objectivity. However, I hold Hondas to an even higher standard than the other cars I review, precisely because I buy them. I’ve never owned anything else. So with that in mind, the Si is a worthy heir to the screaming front-drivers that have come before it: in particular the 1992-2001 Integra and the 99-00 Si coupe. The last-generation Si, produced from 2002 to 2005, was a solid car but lacked the winding powerband and 8000rpm-plus redline of the true cult classics.

The 2007 Civic Si has 197hp, a limited-slip differential, and the same VTEC kick at approximately 6000rpm found in the old Type-R. It even has a similar interior, with black alcantara (faux suede) seats with fabric inserts and red stitching. Like previous Si models, it has a sunroof. But for this year, the big news is the extra set of doors.

The impact of those two doors goes far beyond the obvious increase in interior room, or the totally flat floor that makes the Si sedan a true five-seater. It transforms the entire ownership experience. Being active in the Honda community, I know many young enthusiasts that sold their Integras, CRXs or Civics (coupes or hatchbacks) because they started a family and needed something more practical. It killed them to do it, and they invariably moved on to something they enjoyed far less than their screaming VTEC Hondas.

Honda-Type-R.com - find out what Type R is!

When a Honda's fan hears about Honda Civic Type R, Honda Accord Type R, Honda Integra Type R, Honda NSX R, or Honda Accord Euro R his heart starts to beat faster... he feels the sound of Type R engines... Visit this site and feel it, too!

The Type R is a special line of Honda's models. The Type R series is based on stock models but they have many changes. Those major changes which distinguish Type R from the stock models are: improved car performance and steering gear, minimized weight of the car and more aggressive and dynamic look of the car. At the beginning Type R was constructed especially for racing on tracks but later on it was introduced to a wider market. It can be said that every Type R model is professionally tuned in a Honda factory.

The easiest way to increase the engine power is to enlarge the capacity of the engine or to add a turbocharger. But Honda can do that in a different way, using experience gained during F1 racing. Type R engines are assembled by hand, many parts are replaced with more professional and durable ones, and some parts are even handmade.

The suspension is more sporting and tough, which enables more secure driving of Type R Honda's...despite the fact that stock Honda's are driving really well. What is more, larger wheels with sport lo-profile tires are mounted.

To reduce weight, Type R is produced without heavy additional accessories like numerous speakers or sophisticated air condition.

To makes Type R look more aggressive and dynamic, Honda adds accessories like: bumpers with different air intakes, a nice spoiler, side skirts, bucket seats and interior with aluminum decor, as well as white counters on a dashboard.

Check also videos presenting Type R in action.

Prius, Civic, Jetta: highly recommended options for teenagers’ first cars

Prius, Civic, Jetta: highly recommended options for teenagers’ first cars

unshine glistens across the fading paint. The fresh breeze flows through your hair from the crack in the window. Your head nods to the beat in your ear only to realize it is the “chugga chugga” of the exhaust. It’s the music of your first car.

In high school we witness the evolution of our own means of transportation: school bus to own car or parent to own car.

For those who have the privilege of progressing, a car is seen as freedom. It doesn’t matter what the car looks or sounds like because it’s yours. Ok, stop. Everything about the car totally matters.

So what is the perfect car for a student in high school? Parents would probably say one that is safe. Well, of course you want one that is safe. When you first get your license, you want a car that can manage your not-so-perfect driving skills, if they can even be called a skill.

But from a high school student perspective, the question still remains. Many of us have watched “My Super Sweet Sixteen” and wished for a BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or maybe even a Lamborghini with the spider seats like Chris Brown. But based on affordability, style, fuel efficiency, and features, these are my top three picks in random order.

Honda Civic

he sleek design of the Honda Civic makes it appealing to the eye. The Civic gets 25 miles per gallon in the city and 36 on the highway.

Besides having front and side airbags, the Honda Civic has an Occupant Position Detection System that utilizes sensors in the back of the front passenger’s seat to detect the height and seating position of the occupant; when a person leans into the deployment path of the side airbags, sensor will deactivate it.

The Jetta’s German engineering gives the car a stylish, distinctive look. The Jetta gets 21 miles per gallon in the city and 29 miles per gallon in the highway.

Along with many safety features, such as anti-intrusion side door beams designed to absorb and redirect impact, the Jetta offers several features that teenagers who love music will enjoy. Its 2 antennae system allows the antenna with the stronger signal to be used as the receiver, giving the best reception possible. The Jetta also has as an optional Premium VII Stereo that adds a 6-disc changer that is MP3 compatible and satellite ready. There is also a place to plug in your iPod.

These three cars are perfect for the high school student. If you already have a car, that’s great. But if you don’t and are still trying to come up with an argument for mom and dad, the Honda Civic, Toyota Prius, and Volkswagen Jetta should work. For the parents’ sake, these cars are safe and have great gas mileage. For yours, these cars offer cool designs and excellent features.

Driving Impressions: 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan

Driving Impressions: 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan

Pros:

  • Handling
  • Interior and Exterior Design
  • Sweet, High-revving Motor

Cons:

  • Low Torque
  • Terrible Speedometer Placement

A lot of words come to mind when thinking of Honda four-doors: practical, reliable, dependable, and mostly boring. There’s nothing wrong with making that type of vehicle….Honda has sold millions of them. But what do you do if you’re looking for a little sport in an economical and practical four-door and you don’t want to break the bank. Well, you could start off by looking at the four-door Honda Civic Si.

Conditions for the test drive were incredible (isn’t the Bay Area great), with clear skies and eighty to ninety-degree temperatures. I drove a combination of highway, city surface streets, and winding back roads. I think the conditions in which we tested the car will be consistent with how most people will drive the car.

Build

This is the 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan. It comes equipped with a 4 cylinder 2.0 liter motor that pumps out 197 horsepower at 7800 RPM and 139 pound-feet of torque at 6100 RPM. The motor is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Power is delivered to the road via a front-wheel drive system with a limited slip differential ending in 17 inch, split five spoke alloy rims shod with Michelin Pilot P215/45R17 tires.

Fit and finish is normal Honda excellence. The body panels align properly and the doors close securely.

Interior Comfort and Ergonomics

The Si has a very modern looking interior, with flowing lines and an intelligent design. The instruments are easily visible behind a three spoke steering wheel and the controls are easy to understand and use. However, I did find one area of major concern. The speedometer is placed at the top of a double-stack instrument cluster and is almost impossible to read under direct sunlight. While this design is very distinctive and attractive, it loses points for practicality and is a little disappointing considering normally excellent Honda engineering.

The cloth covered seats are firm and have side bolsters that do a commendable job keeping you in place during spirited driving. This makes for a fairly sporting seat that maintains an appreciable comfort factor. The cloth material which adorns the seats and other surface areas of the interior is very attractive, but acts like Velcro with hair and other debris. Keeping this interior clean will require a little more effort than leather or vinyl. Rear seat leg room is adequate, but becomes a bit crunched when the front seats are place in the full rear position.

The rear seats fold down to provide additional cargo area, but if you want to carry bicycles or other large items, a roof rack will be in order.

It appears that Honda may have left out a little insulation in the interests of keeping this car light. It’s not exactly noisy, just a little more noisy than most cars at this price level.

Performance

The Civic Si boasts a197 horsepower i-VTEC engine with 139 pound-feet of torque….yaaawn. Where’s the sport in this Civic Si? Wait a minute,…I’m starting to feel something. There it is, just had to get over 6,000 rpm to find it. All kidding aside, this is a very nice little motor. Smooth, high-revving, and no quit. This motor is well-served by its six speed manual. Stir the gear-box frequently and keep the RPMs over 6,000 and this is a fun ride. This car makes you want to accelerate just to hear that great exhaust note. Not bad at all for a normally aspirated 2.0 liter.

I did notice that the shifting on this vehicle felt a bit vague. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the transmission, it could just use a better shifting linkage that would allow more positive shifts.

Add 7+ Horsepower to Honda Civic SI with K&N Typhoon Air Intake

Add 7+ Horsepower to Honda Civic SI with K&N Typhoon Air Intake
.
he sport-compact Honda Civic SI made its debut at the 2005 Specialty Equipment Marketers Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas. The redesigned Coupe has a four cylinder engine and is one of the most fuel efficient cars on the market.

Honda has continuously placed a Civic Coupe in the automotive market since 1992, but the 2005 model can be tailored to the owner's style through aftermarket parts. K&N Engineering proudly displayed a highly modified 2006 at the LA Auto Show in January. K&N employees took a stock Honda and worked to build a show car, considered unique to K&N.
K&N has also released a new 69-Series Typhoon Air Intake for the 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Honda Civic SI 2.0L L4, Coupe. K&N dynamometer tests show a 7.01 horsepower gain @6950 RPM. "The power gain is exceptional for an engine this size," said K&N Project Technician Nestor Cabrera. "This type of gain is usually seen on a much larger engine with twice as many cylinders."

The 69-Series Typhoon Air Intake ) is designed for all new Honda Civic SI's equipped with Honda's high revving 2.0L inline 4 Cylinder with variable valve timing and lift with intelligence. "The Kit is designed with maximum air flow in mind and uses several unique to K&N components such as a high volume 5-inch flange, K&N High Flow Air Filter, radiused filter adapter, heat shield and CNC mandrel-bent aluminum tube," said Cabrera. "The mass air flow sensor is mounted directly on the intake tube for precision and accurate mass air flow sensor readings."

The cab forward Honda design created a few obstacles in the development of the K&N Intake System. "To compensate for the tighter engine compartment the K&N Intake Tube was designed using very tight bends and was kept close to the engine," said Cabrera. "The heat shield was also bolted onto the intake tube. Since room was an issue we designed the Intake Kit to flow with all the other components in the engine compartment, keeping the bends very tight and designing a compact yet effective heat shield with provisions to attach the factory fresh air duct."

If you see a particular car you want, you can easily calculate the percentage off MSRP to see if you’re getting a good deal by comparing it to AutoBrag’s discount statistics.
How To Calculate The % Off MSRP: MSRP - Invoice Price = X / MSRP = Y (move the decimal point over two digits to the right and that’s the percentage you’re saving.

There are 3 methods to obtain this deal:

1. Before you begin calling or visiting every dealership, I highly recommend you start a virtual negotiation with your surrounding dealers through Braggle on . You basically place anonymous offers to all dealerships within a 25 to 200 mile radius within your zip code. Dealerships get to compete for your business without gaining your contact information. This method is the easiest procedure and it’s free of charge.

2. Another option is to either buy the car directly from the dealership hosting the deal. You’d have to contact their Internet Sales/Fleet Manager to close the deal. Then, travel to that dealership or have them deliver it to you, which can be costly.

3. The third option is to compare this deal with the inventory at your local dealerships and hope they’ll honor the deal. I recommend printing out all the blue links above and taking them to your local dealerships. But before you go, we suggest you call and make an appointment to see the Internet Fleet Manager because he/she work with internet deals. Avoid the floor salesmen, head straight to the Internet Sales Manager.
Below is an explanation of the data above and how they apply to all the methods.

The first blue link breaks down the numbers so that you don’t have to do any math or researching. You’ll see exactly how much money you’re saving if you pay the “Internet Price”. It also lists the National Average Discount, the National Maximum Discount and the National Average Price for each vehicle. We also provide our personal opinion to whether we think the deal is good or not.

If we approve the deal, we’ll show a thumbs up and “Bring Your Checkbook“.
If we think the deal is ok, we’ll show a thumb tilted sideways and “Fair Market“.
If we disapprove the deal, we’ll show a thumbs down and “Keep Shopping“.

The second blue link is the proof you’ll need when you step foot onto the dealership. Don’t leave home without it! It’s the page that shows the price which you’ll be asking for. It’s basically what you need to pull up on their computers if they don’t believe you found that price online form that dealer’s inventory.
If they don’t believe your prices, ask to use one of their computers so they can see where these figures came from. It’ll be impossible for them to doubt you because you’re pulling up dealership’s website and checking their inventory. It may take a few tries before a dealership agrees to honor the deal. Here’s a good car buying article There’s always an advantage when preparing yourself for a car buying process.

Remember, cars are a commodity so these prices apply everywhere in the U.S. Goodluck and keep us posted!

2009 Honda Civic lineup receives new exterior styling

2009 Honda Civic lineup receives new exterior styling

The Honda Civic is enhanced inside and out for 2009 with new exterior styling, colors and available tech-friendly features like Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® and a USB Audio Interface 1. An exclusively-equipped Civic LX-S Sedan debuts with alloy wheels and sportier interior styling. A new Civic DX Value Package (DX-VP) Sedan builds on the Civic DX Sedan's standard features by adding air conditioning and an audio system.

"The Civic lineup uniquely embraces traditional gasoline, hybrid, high performance and natural gas technologies like no other vehicle in the world," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The exterior styling enhancements and newly-available features help strengthen Civic's position as one of the best-selling vehicles in a market that's embracing small cars more than ever."

All 2009 Civic sedan and coupe models boast redesigned exterior styling features, including a new front bumper cover and grille design and new headlight and taillight color combinations, featuring clear turn indicator lenses with amber bulbs. New alloy wheel designs are introduced on the Civic EX, Civic EX-L and Civic Si models, along with the addition of fog lamps for the Civic Si model.

Interior enhancements come by way of technology-friendly additions. Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® is added to Navigation-equipped models and a USB Audio Interface added to Civic EX, EX-L, Hybrid and Si models. The Civic Hybrid gains the option of leather-trimmed seating surfaces with heated front seats and side mirrors. Additionally, new cloth materials and patterns on seats, door linings and armrests (when equipped) have been updated to further enhance the interior's look and feel.

New for 2009, Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®), also known as electronic stability control, is now standard on the Civic EX-L and Civic Hybrid, in addition to the Civic Si. The entire line-up maintains a standard array of safety technologies including Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure; side curtain airbags; driver's and front passenger's side airbags with a passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS); and dual-stage, dual-threshold driver's and front passenger's airbags (SRS). Active front seat head restraints are designed to help reduce the likelihood of neck injury in the event of a rear collision. Standard active safety features include an anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic brake distribution, front seatbelts with an automatic tensioning system, and a pedestrian injury mitigation design incorporated into the front exterior of the vehicle. Driver and front passenger seatbelt reminders and daytime running lights are also standard equipment.

Four engine and four transmission choices range from a 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine (Civic DX, DX-VP, LX, EX and EX-L), with either a 5-speed manual or an available 5-speed automatic transmission, to a 197-horsepower, 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine (Civic Si) with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Civic Hybrid is powered by a 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine with Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) gasoline-electric hybrid technology to enhance both fuel economy and performance, and is equipped with a continuously variable transmission. The Civic GX is powered by a dedicated natural gas version of the Civic's 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine - and is equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Both Civic Hybrid and Civic GX are classified as Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles (AT-PZEV) by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The Civic GX is classified by the EPA as an Inherently Low Emissions Vehicle (ILEV).

Built on a high-rigidity unit-body platform, the Civic is designed to deliver precise, sharp and refined handling performance with its MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.
